Our Community

Our church is more than just a building – it’s a community of believers who are committed to supporting and encouraging one another in their faith. We welcome people from all walks of life, and believe that everyone has something to contribute to the body of Christ. Whether you’re new to the faith or a lifelong believer, we invite you to be a part of our community.

What We Teach
1. GOD

There is one God, Creator of all things, eternally existing in three persons:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and while each Person of the living Godhead remains unique in function, they are the same essence, sharing the same attributes that distinguish them as the One true eternal deity.  God is equally worthy of our praise and worship for all that He has done, is doing, and will do in accordance with His promises. (Genesis 1:1-31; Hebrews 11:3; Revelation 4:11; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 1:1-2)

2. THE BIBLE
The Bible is God’s inspired and authoritative Word to all of humanity; that the original manuscripts of the Old and New Testaments are infallible and without error; that it is profitable in all that it conveys and not just in areas of faith and practice; that its timeless truths are good for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in God’s righteousness. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Mark 13:31; John 8:31,32; John 20:31; Acts 20:31)

3. JESUS CHRIST
We believe in the full deity and full humanity of Jesus Christ; His preexistence before His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit; His virgin birth; His sinless life; His substitutionary death on a cross; His bodily resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father; and His personal, imminent return.(John 1:1, 18, 20:28; Romans 9:5, 8:46; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8; 2 Peter 1:1; Matthew 1:18-25; Luke 1:26-38; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21-23; John 20:30, 31; Matthew 20:28; Ephesians 1:4; Acts 1:11; Romans 5:6-8, 6:9,10; Hebrews 7:25, 9:28; 1 Timothy 3:16)

4. THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit who proceeded from the Father and Son to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ.  He indwells all believers, baptizes and seals them at the moment of salvation.  He fills them in response to confession of sin and surrender to Him. (John 14:16, 17, 26, 15:26, 27, 16:9-14; Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 6:19; Galatians 5:22-26)

5. GRACE
It is by God’s grace alone that one is saved and is received through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and by the power of the Holy Spirit who calls and equips believers to good works and love for others. (John 10:29; 2 Timothy 1:12; Hebrews 7:25, 10:10,14; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8,9; John 14:6, 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1)

6. MAN
Humanity was made in the image of God and was created by God to serve over all His creation.  However, humanity became rebellious and disobedient to God’s desires and fell short of His glory causing humanity to fall out of right relationship with the Creator.  Yet, because of God’s love for His creation, He sent His only begotten Son into this fallen world that humanity would once again come into right relationship with the Creator and receive the gift of eternal life for all who believe.  God desires a relationship with His creation, not because He is in need of such company, but because He purposes us to be in right relationship with Him as made in His image and likeness. (Genesis 1:27-28, 3:16-19; Romans 3:23; John 3:16)

7. MARRIAGE, GENDER AND SEXUALITY
God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female.  The two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God.  Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.  Marriage is the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in Scripture.  God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other.  (Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:18-25; 1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4)

8. THE ORDINANCES
The Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church, baptism and the Lord’s Supper.  Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the new life we have in Him.  The Lord’s Supper is a reminder of Christ’s sacrifice and anticipates His Second Coming. (Matthew 28:18-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

9. THE CHURCH
Gathering regularly with other Christians allows us to grow in Christ-like character dependent on the Holy Spirit.  Every Christian is to honor God and support the church’s work through proportional giving and sacrificial offerings.  Winning individuals, families and nations to God through the Good News of Jesus Christ is the principal work of the church. (Acts 16:5; Hebrews 10:25; Mark 16:15; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21; James 5:20)

10. JUDGMENT, HEAVEN AND HELL
Each person will stand before God in judgment and receive either eternal reward or eternal punishment.  We teach that Heaven is the glorious eternal home of all those who have their sins forgiven in Christ Jesus.  We teach that Hell is a place of everlasting torment away from the loving presence of God; and that it awaits all who reject God’s forgiveness in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:10; Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:11-15; 1 Corinthians 2:9; Revelation 21:1-4; Revelations 22:3-5; Revelation 20:10-15)

ABOUT PASTOR STEVE SANCHEZ
My name is Steve Sanchez and I was an associate pastor at Hope Chapel, Hermosa Beach, California for over fifteen years where I served as Pastor of Evangelism, Singles, Pro-Life Ministry and Baptisms. I also oversaw half of our church’s 100+ small groups, raising up leaders, and instructing them on how to best care for our congregation.
After living a drug addict’s life and nearly losing everyone I loved and everything I owned, I  found Christ at Hope Chapel in December 1990. Or, more accurately, he found me, and saved me. Read my story here.
I have studied with Pacific International University and Hope Chapel Ministries Institute as well as The School of Biblical Evangelism. I served as a team leader for the Way of the Master’s Ambassadors’ Academy between 2008-2011, and 2022-2023 training students from around the world on how to share their faith on the streets.
On June 14, 2013 I got the call to move from Southern California, (where I had lived for over 50 years), to Dripping Springs, Texas, to plant a church. (Read that story here.)
After a year and a half, the church didn’t pan out and I thought God was calling me out of vocational ministry. But no. He opened up a door of opportunity in Johnson City through an amazing coincidence. (Read about that here.)
After eight years as pastor there, we parted ways and I planted another church in the Johnson City Community Resource Center called Solid Rock Bible Church. After a year and a half, God providentially provided an historic building for us in Hye, about seven miles west of Johnson City, and we changed our name to the church that had been there since the fifties: Rocky Community Church.
My heart is to see people turn to God through faith and repentance by understanding the good news of Jesus Christ, to grow up in Him, and learn to share Him with others. (I made a commitment to share the gospel daily on January 1, 2004. (Read about it here.)
